On Sunday, June 6, Youtuber Logan Paul will share the ring with undefeated, 12 time, five division boxing champion Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.
Yes, you heard that correctly, an internet personality will fight arguably the greatest boxer of all time.
Like many, we believe that Logan Paul is using the Mayweather fight as a PR stunt considering that Mayweather is 50-0 in his fighting career and that Paul lost to Youtuber KSI in his only boxing match.
The exhibition bout between Paul and Mayweather is being tabbed as an exhibition as the result of the fight won’t impact Floyd’s perfect 50-0 record, but again why are we even concerned with the details of the fight?
For boxing purists and combat sports enthusiasts alike seeing a legend like Mayweather entertain ‘Celebrity Boxing’ is disheartening.
Mayweather put his undefeated record on the line fighting Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.
Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao, which some suggested was the ‘fight to save boxing’ and of course, how could we forget the amazing crossover between Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and boxing stars as Floyd fought Conor McGregor.
To see a legend of the sport stoop so low to sign a fight with what is considered an average joe is flat out wrong.
As for Logan Paul, does he legitimately think he can take down Mayweather and hand him his first loss?
Paul told podcast host George Janko that there is a 10/10 chance that he will knock Mayweather out.
“I can see how that sounds ridiculous,” Paul said. “But guess what Georgey? My whole f***ing life is ridiculous. None of this s*** makes sense.”
He’s partially right, but it is obvious that if the fight were to occur, Mayweather would knock him out quickly.
He got a black eye recently at a media event which was most likely given to him by Mayweather.
If you need further proof that this fight is nothing more than a PR stunt, look no further than Logan Paul’s Japan ‘suicide forest’ scandal.
On December 31, 2017, Paul uploaded a vlog on his YouTube channel showing a video of a deceased man who had hanged himself in Aokigahara’s forest.
Many speculated that this controversy would end his career as an influencer -- but no -- the opposite would end up being true.
According to Forbes, Paul would end up making $14.5 million amid the scandal.
Say what you want about Logan Paul, but he knows how to market himself as he continues to maintain and grow an internet empire with a young, yet large audience.
At the end of the day, this supposed fight is just an attention grabber as the world is looking to recover from COVID-19 pandemic.
